Percolation Columns & Dissolution Columns

DESCRIPTION

PERCOLATION COLUMNS

Percolation columns are essential testing equipment used in gold (Au) extraction processes via leaching. These columns are designed to evaluate the permeability and consolidation characteristics of ore material. The test begins with the addition of a lixiviant solution to the ore packed within the column. As the solution percolates through the ore bed, observations are made on the material’s settling behavior. The lixiviant, introduced at the top of the column, gradually flows out through a discharge valve at the bottom, with the outflow volume measured to determine hydraulic conductivity. This method provides critical data on ore permeability and fluid-ore interaction, offering key insights for optimizing leaching efficiency and recovery rates.

DISSOLUTION COLUMNS

Dissolution columns are used to evaluate the dissolution efficiency and time required for valuable minerals, particularly gold, within the ore when subjected to cyanide leaching. Cyanide and other reagents are added to the ore packed within the column, allowing the solutions to percolate and dissolve minerals over a specified period. At the end of the test, the column contents are discharged, and samples are taken from various sections of the ore bed for analysis. These analyses provide insight into the dissolution efficiency and help identify the most effective processes for extracting valuable minerals.

Both types of columns play a critical role in laboratory environments for assessing the unique characteristics of ores and optimizing mineral processing workflows to achieve the best recovery outcomes.
