Ball & Rod Mill

DESCRIPTION

The UNAL Laboratory Ball – Rod Mill is a bench-top drive unit engineered to rotate grinding jars with precision, making it ideal for sample preparation, particle size reduction, and pulverizing applications in laboratories. Optimized for both wet and dry grinding, this compact and efficient system supports simultaneous operation with two jars, improving throughput and repeatability.

This dual-jar capability enhances laboratory productivity by enabling users to process multiple samples at once. Thanks to interchangeable ball and rod milling configurations, the unit offers flexibility for grinding a wide range of materials, from soft minerals to harder compounds, helping laboratories reach desired fineness levels efficiently.

Designed for quiet operation, the unit’s interior is lined with acoustic insulation foam, minimizing noise and creating a comfortable working environment. The safety interlock mechanism ensures safe handling by disabling the system when the safety cover is open.

Grinding Jar Options for Laboratory Use

3-Liter Alumina Milling Jar
Crafted from high-purity alumina ceramic, this jar completely eliminates metal contamination risk, making it ideal for sensitive applications such as pharmaceutical, biomaterials, or high-purity mineral analysis.
It is supplied with a full charge of alumina grinding media in various diameters and is compatible with both dry and wet milling.

6-Liter Stainless Steel Jar
Made from durable AISI 304 stainless steel (Ø200×200 mm),  Suitable for a wide range of industrial and research samples. This jar is supplied with one charge of chrome alloy grinding balls. It is compatible with both dry and wet milling.

9-Liter Stainless Steel Jar
Also made from AISI 304 stainless steel (Ø200×300 mm), it includes one charge of heat-treated chrome alloy grinding balls and one charge of AISI 304 stainless steel rod for rod milling applications. , offering increased capacity for larger samples or extended milling durations. It is compatible with both dry and wet milling.

With its versatile design, interchangeable grinding media, and noise-insulated structure, the UNAL Laboratory Ball – Rod Mill is the perfect choice for laboratories in need of precise, repeatable, and efficient sample preparation equipment.

The lid safety switch, which prevents operation when the lid is open, is designed to keep work safety at the highest level. This safety system prevents the device from operating as long as the cover is open, thus preventing any accidents from occurring. Unless the operator closes the lid, the engine of the device will not be activated and the operating process cannot be started. This feature is of critical importance for both the safety of the operator and the safe operation of the device.

APPLICATION AREAS

Our Ball&Rod Mill is suitable for grinding a wide range of materials. Some uses include:

Mineral ores (copper, iron, gold, chrome ores), concrete, ceramics, coal, glass, quartz, corundum, granite, slag and cement clinker, some industrial wastes, etc.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

The Ball – Rod Mill is an efficient grinding mill for sample preparation, providing both ball and rod options for uniform material reduction.

  • Material Loading: Material is placed in the mill, with 6- or 9-liter tube options based on needs.
  • Grinding Motion: Circular motion enhances interaction between balls/rods and material, enabling size reduction.
  • Adjustable Speed: Rotation speed is adjustable from 0-300 rpm for optimal grinding.
  • Result Collection: Ground material is collected, ready for analysis or further use.

This setup supports efficient, reliable sample preparation for various materials.
